Thank you for this article!
As a matter of fact (potential) distractions are everywhere around us. Because of that we have to become aware of their impact on our work - to be able to deal with them.
Some of the sources you mention in your text, like e-mail and phone, are widely considered communication channels to be available - for co-workers, customers, contractors,... That said, a lot of the sources of distraction are rooted in the idea of being always available. (Do we really need to be always available, for everyone?) Maybe the fear of missing something very, very important should not be underestimated either. (But what is important, what is it that really matters?)
Sure, everyone needs different kinds of inspiration to come up with the best results possible. And everyone needs an individual amount of breaks. But everything apart from proper inspiration and proper breaks sure could be considered a distraction.
And you are right, we should be aware of those things that tend to draw off our attention, and we should think about ways to deal with those things, just like you suggested.

I have to agree with you about what you said that part of networking is building a relationship. And not just to build up a relationship but to go deeper into it. In this way, you could promote business referrals and this would come up with new clients. Last thing that would probably happen would be expansion of your business network.

Thank you Lee! Others reading this might notice the similarity between our surnames and yes we should say it's true we are related, but I must also stress that I know your comment is sincere and based purely on merit and therefore it means so much to me and is much more than what some might see as nepotistic support for your sister.

Of course, anyone who know us knows that we are anything but nepotistic and so really, thank you very much for your comment - I am glad that you liked the post and liked it enough to leave a comment! :) I hope it was useful to others too!

Alex - What a fantastic concept - I've scheduled mine already. My problem is unrealistic expectations about how much I can fit into a specific time slot - so this will help with that too.

Thanks for the great blog - I really enjoy all your articles - timely and excellent reminders to keep us on track.

Sorry to hear you have been unwell - hope you are back to full strength!
Best regards
Helen

Great point Susie and glad you like the post. The example I gave is just illustrative to make it clear and although many people are overwhelmed by the fast pace of developing online media - it also applies to all kinds of marketing.

Thanks again for your interest!
Kindest regards

Absolutely agree with your article. I find many small business owners simply get overwhelmed by online marketing and it's many applications, and subsequently shy away from doing anything online. This is a great shame because it cuts out a large proportion of their target market(s). It's for this reason I'd be wary of using your example of non web users (above). Actually I find it quite difficult to think of any product or service which would be applicable to non web users only. Plus offline marketing strategies are so expensive and difficult to measure ROI when compared to online promotion.
Let's face it, when did you last read a piece of direct mail or buy a product which was advertised in a newspaper or magazine? I can't remember, and in any case if something catches my interest in the printed world, I'll go straight to the website to find out more...!!
Or is it just me?
